5 Essential Pairs of Shoes

Our world isn’t exactly barefoot-friendly, so shoes are important no matter what. You might as well wear the cool ones.

Here are 5 footwear must-haves to take you through the seasons, and help you serve all the looks.

Tennis Shoes

The all-around utilitarian shoe.

Going for a walk? Got some yard work to do? These shoes are specifically designed for physical activity. I wear the ones I have pretty much exclusively to go to the gym; I’m not super outdoorsy, and I don’t have to be on my feet all day. But I couldn’t do without my tennis shoes, because it would be terribly bad of me not to work out–at least enough to maintain my health.

Flip-Flops

Looking cute, staying cool.

Especially in my neck of the woods, where summer heat can get intense, flip-flops are more or less unavoidable. They are about as close to barefoot as you can get, while still keeping your soles from getting scorched by sizzling pavement. And in July/August, when it basically feels like the air is on fire, the idea of putting socks on is just loathsome.

Flip-flops come in all kinds of styles, and they’re usually pretty cheap. So get a pedicure, or simply paint your toenails your favorite color, and let your feet be free.

Flats

The shoe that goes with everything.

There are two requirements for the perfect pair of flats. A) They are comfortable. B) They are neutral in color. If you have a pair of shoes that meets those requirements, you have footwear that could conceivably be worn every day, and with almost any outfit.

I have two pairs that I switch between, and I’ll most likely wear them until they just fall apart. Flats are the best friends of the shoe world.

Heels

Getting sexy.

My relationship with high heels is, eh, hit or miss. For the most part, I don’t wear them. I find walking in them tedious, at best, and overall they are just not healthy for your feet.

However…

Sometimes, there is simply a need for a pair of vivacious, ultra-sexy, hello-lover heels. Though it’s only once in a blue moon for me, I don’t want to go through life never having any bold evenings. Treat yourself to at least one pair of ridiculous eye-candy shoes. They’re basically lingerie for your feet.

Boots

Flawless cold weather style.

Boots may be my all-time favorite kind of shoe. Depending on your mood, you can look like a sweet lil’ lady or a kickass biker chick, and your boots will perfectly complement either attitude. I have a black and a grey pair, and I wear them all through the fall and winter seasons, anywhere from a Christmas party to the grocery store. I’d almost wear them all year round, but I have to admit they’re a little out of place with spring/summer outfits.

Pro-tip: Though I can’t deny the sex appeal of the high-heeled variety, if you have a pair of flat boots, you’re set. You’ll have the golden standard for any wearable item: comfort and style. And a pair of really good ones will sort of conform to the shape of your foot over time. Ultimate foot happiness!

Apologies for the brevity of this post. I probably should have covered this subject a long time ago, back when I was making posts on other kinds of essentials. But better late than never!

And just in case you had any doubts about me practicing what I preach…

Behold!

Here’s a picture of the shoes I’m wearing as I type this. A pair of comfy, neutral flats. Follow my example. Your feet will thank you!

Have a beautiful week.
